My Favorite Green Smoothie

Let me introduce you to my favorite green smoothie.

I post a lot of smoothie pics on my Instagram but just realized I hardly have any smoothie recipes on my blog. Allow me to change that.

I love smoothies year round...hot, cold, snow, rain or shine...I just love having a smooth creamy drink first thing in the morning. I crave this smoothie. I am actually craving it right now as I type this. And no, I am not trying to pretend to be one of those people who claims they "crave" foods like carrots and celery all the time, but I am not kidding when I say I crave this smoothie. It is creamy, sweet, and incredibly satisfying to me.

I am a big fan of incorporating veggies into any and every meal. I often talk to my clients about ways they can incorporate veggies in at breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals. It is usually pretty easy to think about ways to include veggies at lunch and dinner but breakfast is another story. We often associate breakfast with sweet foods (bread, pastries, fruit, pancakes, waffles, etc.), not necessarily savory foods, and especially not vegetables. This smoothie is what we call "having your cake and eating it too". It is a delightfully sweet smoothie with a big punch of veggie nutrition. Spinach is one of my favorite ways to incorporate veggies into my smoothies. It blends extremely well and is virtually undetectable on the taste front. Speaking of taste, this smoothie tastes like a creamy peanut butter banana milk shake. Hello dream smoothie!

I know the vibrant green color can be a little scary to some, but I actually love it! This combination yields such a fun, almost neon color that I just adore. It's a great change of pace from a "typical" breakfast. I love that this smoothie takes about 2 minutes to make and sends me out the door with 3 full servings of fruit and veg in the morning. This takes a lot of pressure off feeling like you have to cram all the fruits and veggies in at other meals. Plus, I love all the fiber this contains. This smoothie keeps me full until lunch which is so important on busy days. Really, it doesn't get much better than this :)

Cheer's to health!

My Favorite Green Smoothie

A creamy, sweet green smoothie with banana, peanut butter, spinach, flaxseed, fruit, and almond milk. It is perfect for a satisfying breakfast or healthy snack.

|Serves 1|

Ingredients

  • 1 banana
  • 1-2 large handfuls of spinach
  • 1 date, pitted
  • 1/4 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1/4 cup frozen mango
  • 1 heaping Tbsp natural peanut butter (or almond butter)
  • 1 Tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 1/2 cup - 3/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until creamy. Add more almond milk, or frozen fruit to thin/thicken as desired. Serve immediately or freeze for later (although tastes much better when fresh).
  2. Enjoy!

Notes

*To make this smoothie thinner, omit the ground flaxseed and/or add more liquid.
